A recent survey by driverside.com showed that owners are hanging onto their cars and trucks longer than they originally planned. In fact, 82 percent agreed with this statement: "Because of the current state of the economy, I plan on keeping my car longer than originally planned."
It’s unclear when that survey was done, but not much seems to have changed now that the recession is officially over. (It ended in June 2009.) An article this past spring from Cleveland.com says, “The average age of vehicles in American households was more than 11.3 years in 2012, according to the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics, or BLS. That was up from 10.1 years in 2007. The figure included cars, vans, sport utility vehicles and trucks.”
