Dining In On Art

Think you can't fit large, three-dimensional art into your house, office, or apartment? Think again.

One of the most frustrating things about watching interior design shows, or reading those home decorating or architectural design magazines is the feeling that you can never duplicate what’s there. Like the art, for example. Especially three-dimensional art. Sure, you can buy a six-inch tall statue to stick on a shelf or coffee table, but somehow that just doesn’t have the same impact as the six-foot tall modern art original that just looked so darn good in those magazine photos. But, seriously, how many of us have houses that are big enough to house such a piece muchless have the room for guests to walk around it, viewing it from all angles while oohing and aahing?

But, wait. There is an easy way to import a rather large three-dimensional artistic piece into most homes. It’s called the dining room table. Think about it – get a really a cool base and stick a glass top on it. Voila! You have instant art. And it’s useful. And versatile (think coffee tables, end tables, desks).

And so creative. You can use clear glass to set off the base. You could make the whole thing out of glass. You could use the glass as part of the design – layered with wood to create an oceanscape, embedded in the wood to create an indoor river or lake, or cut to create waves. (Click on links to see some of the endless possibilities.)

And when you want to do something exciting and different with glass, call Don’s Mobile Glass. We have more than 50 years’ experience in the Central Valley working with designers, homeowners and others to create custom, one-of-a kind designs in glass.
