Adjust your side view mirrors properly to help avoid accidents.
You noticed when you were out chasing zombies on Halloween that you were having to look behind you a lot while driving. And you weren't checking for zombies approaching from the rear. Instead, you were making sure there was no other vehicle in your blind spot before you changed lanes. You're not looking forward to attending the Modesto Symphony's 85th birthday bash because of all the head turning you have to do.
The need to frequently check your blind spot might indicate your side view mirror is positioned incorrectly. A study a few years ago by the Society of Automotive Engineers and reported by Car and Driver found that you should adjust the mirrors "so far outward that the viewing angle of the side mirrors just overlaps that of the cabin's rearview mirror." In other words, you shouldn't see the side of your car in the mirror.
"Many accidents could be avoided if everyone had their car side and rearview mirrors positioned correctly, eliminating blind spots and making it easier to change lanes quickly," lifehacker.com says. "If your side mirrors right now reflect some of your own car, best adjust them so you can avoid blind spots and the accidents they cause."
Of course, this makes no difference if your side view mirror is broken or has fallen off and needs to be fixed or replaced. In that case, it's time to call Don's Mobile Glass.
