When you need auto glass repair in Modesto and other areas of the Central Valley, call Don's.
One of the “OH, NO!” moments in life happens when you leave work on Friday and all you’re thinking about is having fun with your kids and partner over the weekend at the BMX races. Then you see – a smashed car window. With luck, nothing was taken, but you’re still left with tiny chunks of glass everywhere. On the seat. The dash. The floor. You’re lucky you weren’t inside when the glass broke.
The glass shattered rather than staying in place after it broke because side windows are made of tempered glass rather than laminated glass (like your windshield). Tempered glass is strong, but it will shatter. Laminated glass is two layers of glass with a layer of polyvinyl butyral between. The glass-PVB “sandwich” is heated and pressure is applied. The result is a strong structure that’s hard to break and tends not to shatter. It’s becoming more popular as a material for side windows, particularly in high-end cars. An NBC station in Texas estimated that about 12 percent of new cars built in 2013 had laminated glass on the side front windows and that, by 2018, it will be 20 percent.
Of course, if you’re the one standing there, staring at a broken side window – with or without scattered glass pieces – you just want it fixed. And that’s where Don’s Mobile Glass comes in.
