Some people think that, because they live in an older manufactured home, they have no options when it comes to saving money on energy.
If you live in an older manufactured home, you may think there isn’t much you can do to stop drafts and leaks and to reduce those energy bills. But that’s not the case. The U.S. Department of Energy says there’s a lot you can do to make things better:
- Install energy-efficient windows and doors
- Add insulation to the belly
- Make general repairs (caulking, ducts, etc.)
- Add insulation to your walls
- Install insulated skirting
- Install a belly wrap
- Add insulation to your roof or install a roof cap.
“Experiments conducted on pre-1976 manufactured homes by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) from 1988 to 1991 found that these retrofit measures resulted in a 31% reduction in heating fuel usage,” energy.gov says.
The best place to call for those energy-efficient doors and windows is Don’s Mobile Glass. Don’s has been the trusted window replacement company in the Central Valley area for more than 50 years.
